We request you to carefully go through our Terms and Conditions policy to understand the specifics in detail. By subscribing to the registration process at BookTree, members automatically accept all Terms & Conditions & privacy policy and explicitly agree to abide by it. We look forward to your co-operation in adhering to the same. We thank you for your membership and will strive to provide you a best-in-class reading experience at BookTree.

  1. Eligibility - Any individual is eligible to become a member at BookTree. By default, memberships are maintained for individuals only. Unless specifically maintained for corporates under special plan or scheme. However, BookTree reserves the right to accept or reject membership at its sole discretion.

  2. DEFINITION OF A BOOK: Every book is considered as one unit and plans are based on the number of units that a member subscribes for and the duration of the subscription. Every unit (i.e., every book), irrespective of the size, content, newness is priced as per the existing policy of the library and BookTree reserves the right to fix the rate of the books based on existing company policy and market rates.

  3. Members are requested to make maximum use of their membership plan by visiting the library as frequently as possible to exchange their books. Returning books within the stipulated time is encouraged to prevent late fee and dues by members. All members are requested to make their selections by visiting the website (www.booktreelib.com) as well as the branch. Any new recommendation for a title that needs to be acquired by the branch can be informed to the branch personnel. Members are requested to post their comments/views and reviews of the books read by them on the website (www.booktreelib.com)/Facebook page/Instagram handle of BookTree to enable other avid readers

  4. In consideration of the availability of books to all members in periodic cycle, members will not be issued multiple books from the same series to prevent blocking of the series for other enthusiasts. If a book is in demand, members can inform the branch of their request, and the book will be made available to them in the order of requests.

  5. No member may re-lend books borrowed from BookTree at any time. Doing so will entail automatic cancellation of membership.

  6. PLAN & PAYMENT TERMS: By subscribing to a specific membership plan of BookTree, the member is explicitly agreeing to pay, in advance, the reading fee attached to the plan plus any other applicable fee or tax at the frequency specified by the plan. Any noncompliance with the payment terms in spite of two reminders, by email and/or SMS, will attract a penalty of 10% per payment period of the amount due and may lead to cancellation/termination of membership. If member continues to hold the book beyond membership expiry date, then she/he will be liable to pay the membership fees of the respective months for which books are held by the member.

  7. Memberships can be transferred to any other individual's name with explicit communication to, and with permission of BookTree. The Transferee should provide their details to be updated on the system. Membership Transfer may or may not incur a charge depending on existing policies of that time. BookTree retains the right to permit such transfers at its sole discretion.

  8. READING PERIOD: BookTree proposes a reasonable reading period of 20 days with a restriction on the number of books that a member can hold at any point in time depending on their book plan and issuance date. Members can return the books earlier than the stipulated 20 days and exchange other books. Members will receive a reminder message either by email or WhatsApp indicating the expiry of the 20 days reading period. Member can extend the reading period for another 10 days by personally visiting the branch. If the book is not returned beyond the 20 days, and is also not extended at the branch, overdue will be charged automatically at the prevailing rates ( overdue charge currently is Rs 10 per day per book).

  9. REGISTRATION FEE: BookTree charges a one-time non-refundable Registration Fee based on the plan. This amount is subject to change periodically and BookTree reserves the right to do so.

  10. CAUTION/SECURITY DEPOSIT: BookTree charges a caution/security deposit amount based on book and term plan as subscribed by members. The caution/security deposit amount is used to adjust overdue payment and charges when member fails to pay the same. A portion of this caution/security deposit is maintained as a Minimum Caution/Security deposit amount, which is the minimum amount needed to be maintained by members with BookTree at all times of their membership plan. If the amount falls below the minimum caution/security deposit amount then members will be notified of the shortfall and will have to pay the difference amount and dues prevailing then. One (1) reminder will be provided and failure to pay the difference will cause the membership to be terminated and all outstanding to be recovered from the caution/security deposit to permissible extent.

  11. READING FEE/RENEWAL FEE: Reading/Renewal fees should be paid as per the plan. In the event that a member does not renew his/her subscription, BookTree reserves the right to adjust the caution/security amount towards the reading fees and cost of outstanding books in member accounts. If there is no balance in the Caution/security Deposit Amount, then the company will terminate the membership of the member. All correspondence in this regard will be communicated to the email address the member has submitted in the application form.

  12. Members are requested to maintain track of their plan details, including their expiry dates as well as the Book Reading Period and Holiday Break period. BookTree does not hold any liability to intimate members about the same. All contacts/SMS/reminders will be communicated to the number/email that member has provided at the time of the membership. Members should note that reminder messages are only an additional service and not limiting. It is the responsibility of members to note the period and expiry of plan and also the reading period of each book. BookTree does not hold any responsibility of intimating the same to members. Members are requested to update their contact details periodically and/or when changed to facilitate this.

  13. USE AND CARE OF BOOKS AND THE LIBRARY: All members to note that the books in the library have a specific assigned place and need to be put back in their respective places only. The books are covered to prevent damage and the cover jacket should be handled carefully by members. Dog-earing of books, underlining, marking, folding pages, tearing out of pages, scribbling, damaging the cover or the pages of the book in any form is strictly prohibited. If a book is found to be damaged under any of the said way then member is liable to bear the cost of the damage . Members are also requested to maintain silence while using the library to facilitate the presence of other members. At any point of time members are free to approach the front desk personnel for any type of assistance.

  14. LOST & DAMAGED BOOKS: At BookTree, we take utmost care to maintain books in good condition. Any anomaly (unprinted/missing pages) or damage if found should be reported immediately at front desk while getting the book issued or to the delivery executive if the book is delivered at members’ home. Failure to check and/or report the same during the time of issuance will be constituted as if the member has received a book in good condition. While returning the book, the front desk executive, or the delivery executive (if the book is collected at members’ home) will check for any damage of book(s) and report to the member accordingly. The determination of a book being “damaged” will be at the sole discretion of BookTree. Members can choose to replace a lost or damaged book within 5 days or pay the penalty amount determined by BookTree. The damaged policy is detailed below:

  16. BREAK PERIOD: Member is eligible for one free break period depending on their membership plan (1 month plan – 10 days break; 3/6/12 months plan – 1 month break period). Members have to surrender the books that they are currently holding in order to start the break period. If books are held in account then the membership is considered to be in continuation and break period cannot be applied to the member’s account. Members should ensure that their account is free from books issued before the start of the break. Beyond the free break period, all breaks will be charged at Rs 100 for a break period. If the member does not utilise the free break period eligible in the current plan, then it does not get carried forward to the next renewal plan. Member should keep a note of the membership restart date after the expiration of the break period and should contact the branch for the same. BookTree does not hold responsibility for intimating members about the automatic restarting of membership after the end of the break period.

  17. MEMBERSHIP CLOSURE: As a general practice, members are discouraged from taking ad hoc and short term membership plans. Members are expected to maintain a minimum period of three (3) months of their membership(except for the one month plan). Members are discouraged to foreclose the membership as no refund of reading fee is done. Membership card and books have to be returned at the time of closure. Closure form has to be filled and signed while closing the membership. The refundable caution/security deposit amount will be adjusted with the recoverable dues from the member. Recovery can be towards the overdue/penalty/loss and damage of books and similar other outstanding payments that are due.

  18. UNCLAIMED REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT: Upon expiry of membership, BookTree sends reminders over emails/SMS to its members for renewal. 1 month after the expiry, BookTree reserves the right to classify the account as “Dormant” and initiate steps to recover cost of books and any unpaid reading fee from the refundable deposit. If the member does not contact the branch even after 2 attempts to renew the membership, BookTree reserves the right to adjust the dues with the members outstanding fee as well as the cost of the book(s) in the member account. Post this recovery, any excess deposit left in the account will be retained as “Unclaimed” refundable deposit for a period of 1 month and periodic reminders would be sent to the member to claim the same. After the completion of a period of 2 months of expiry of membership, BookTree reserves the right to treat the member as "not reachable" and may appropriate the balance amount from the deposit as donation by member to the library and an appropriate notification will be sent to member. The membership will also be closed in the books of account of BookTree. If the member contacts the branch post this, then it will be treated as a fresh membership with new account and payment policies will be as applicable at that point of time.

  19. MEMBERSHIP CARD: Membership card will be issued to members once they register with the library. This card is common to a family unit and can be used by any member of the family. The membership card may be transferred by member under exceptional circumstances with a nominal transference fee. Members are requested to present the card to the front office personnel when they visit the branch to issue and return the books. Reporting a loss of card or rending a card unfit for use through wilful/intentional or unintentional means will attract a replacement cost of Rs.100/- per card. Multiple cards for the same number can be obtained by paying an amount of Rs.100/- per extra card.

  20. CHANGES TO TERMS & CONDITIONS: BookTree reserve the right to change these Terms & Conditions, from time to time, with or without notice, in its sole and absolute discretion. The most current version of these Terms & Conditions can be reviewed by clicking on the “Terms & Conditions” tab on the website (www.booktreelib.com). Members are encouraged to go through the Terms & Conditions on the website (www.booktreelib.com) and always keep herself/himself updated for the same. The most current version of the “Terms & Conditions” will supersede all previous versions. Your continued use of service after changes are made means that you agree to be bound by such changes.

  21. DATA SECURITY POLICY: Information provided by a member, while signing up to BookTree services, such as identification and contact details, will be for the exclusive use of BookTree. BookTree may use this information to send regular communications about service related, third party source or any other relevant information.

  22. Under extreme situations caused by noncompliance of the Terms & Conditions by member, BookTree reserves the right to terminate a membership for any or no reason without any refund.

  23. All disputes arising between BookTree, and any member shall be subject exclusively to the Jurisdiction of Mumbai courts only.
